The
Finnish
Data
Processing
Museum
opened a display in early September, 2006 in the DYNAMO building of the Jyväskylä
University of Applied Sciences. Machines and gadgets on display were used for
data processing throughout the decades ever since the 1950s.
The
display areas are the building’s lobbies, from the second until the fifth
floor. The display is open for public in Piippukatu 2, on week days from
8am
till

The
IBM
083 Card Organizer and
IBM
026 Card Puncher from the punch card era of 1950s and 1960s are on display on
the second floor. The
Finnish
Data
Processing
Museum
can still read the information on the punch cards; this skill has been needed
several times.

The
third floor displays the real work horse of computer centres: the hydraulic
IBM
1403 line printer along with the TELETYPE which was used as the printer and
terminal for smaller computers. This is during 1960 – 1980.

The
fourth floor: The
IBM

gigabytes. On top of the disk drive is a disassembled removable disk unit and
different read/write heads.

CRAY
super computer is located on the fifth floor, and represents the fourth super
computer used in
Finland
. It was in use from 1996 – 2005. The Museum must store newer machines as
well; after they are eradicated it’s impossible to find them anywhere.
